A personal thank you to Air Force MSgt Ryan Crane for nominating me for this flight. Thank you sir.
The Thunderbirds have a SEmost Channel
This flight took place on May 3, 2019 in Biloxi Mississippi. The reason it took so long to release is the high amount of research I wanted to do before releasing the video. I even visited the Air Force Research Lab at Wright Patterson AFB to discuss some aspects of this video with Aerodynamicists. Synchronizing all this footage and coordinating additional B Roll with the Thunderbirds Public Affairs Officer also required a lot of effort.
These are my own thoughts, not those of the U.S. Air Force or the Thunderbirds:
I've been around a lot of pilots and ground crew in my life and I must say that the professionalism displayed by the Thunderbirds was astounding. Their goal is to inspire and demonstrate the capabilities of the US Air Force, so I'll take it a step further. If you're a smart young person who is interesting in changing your life for the better, strongly consider the Air Force. The job market isn't the best at the moment but the Air Force still has opportunities available for you to learn incredible skills even if you're not interested in flying. They manage everything from logistics, electronics, aerospace, cyber and even space systems. The threats to freedom are becoming more complex, and in my experience working for the Department of Defense over a 15 year span (even longer if you count my work as a contractor) The US Air Force consists of some of the most intelligent service members our country has. These people are book-smart, but also have the confidence to solve real world problems with their own hands. If I have a complex aerodynamic question, my first call is usually to someone in the Air Force, because they understand these complex phenomena intuitively. For example, in this video you would hear Flack and I talking about pitot tubes in flight. We also had other discussions about fuel burn rates, Prandtl Glauert, weather.... all kinds of things. Simply put, if you're looking for direction in your life, and you're good with science and math... consider the Air Force. That being said, they also need other types of skills as well. Logisticians, writers, creative people who know how to solve complex problems in unique ways.

This video was the opportunity of a lifetime. When asked if I wanted to fly in an F-16, I said "Yes please, and there are some things I'd like to study. Can we try supersonic flight at different altitudes?" I'm very grateful for this opportunity and would like to thank Flack and the rest of the US Air Force Thunderbirds. This flight took place on May 3rd, 2019. This Spatial Disorientation training is something all fighter pilots go through so they can understand how their own physiology works under these conditions. Thank you for watching and learning with me. I always wanted to know what happened in the cockpit when a jet goes supersonic. I have a question, if your the pilot and it only takes let's say 2 seconds to go from 200ft above deck to the smacking the deck, the person on the ground watching, how many seconds would it take for us to see the jet smack the deck???? Also how come airplanes look like they are going slow from ground level, also I wonder if time changes for a person in a plane vs a person on the ground!! Cause a person in a jet is moving faster then a person on the ground, so therefore their time has to be going by faster then a person on the ground.....right or am I tripping??

@SmarterEveryDay I used to "live" in a guitar-shop every-day after work for several years... The shop-owner became a good friend. One day I asked him the story behind the autographed aerial-formation photo of The Blue Angels on the wall. Come to find out that his sister was their Crew-Chief for 2 years... He said that there was a 2 year limit for the position...

Wow, you are a lucky son of a gun. I'm sure it must not be anywhere near easy getting the privilege of a full stunt ride with the USAF Thunderbirds as an airman or other military service, much less as a civilian. Back in my youth I think I could maybe have handled a ride like this, but today I don't think I could handle 7 gs either.

I'm 13 and I'm thinking about joining the air force because I'm interested in aircraft and military , I am finding it difficult to pick between Marin corps and Air force -i still have a lot of research to do- and even though I could barely understand what you were talking about , it was awesome! I even got a little headache 🙌 Can't wait to lean physics and understand all this Thank you so much😊❤

Excellent video! Thank you. Let us not forget that, a part from the static and stagnation pressure ports, the Pitot tube also requires a temperature sensor. In fact, in the formula that you've shown for the computation of the air speed, the air density appears (at the denominator, under the root square) which is a function of the temperature. Cheers!

I heard my first sonic boom at about 4-years old while sitting calmly on my back deck in Johnston county North Carolina sandwiched between Pope, Bragg, Lejeune, and Seymour Johnson AFB, and eating my Vienna sausages. Late 1980's/early 90's I jumped up, almost pissed myself in terror, and dropped my Vienna sausages, stepping in and then slipping all over them in my panic over the monstrous and epic _BOOMMMMMMMM_ I had just experienced. That sparked a life-long obsession with everything aerial for me. I've been to countless airshows and am so proud of pilots everywhere, and our military. That said I can imagine myself driving. I can imagine myself even speeding but I CAN NOT imagine what it must feel like to be going supersonic, having physical control over the most minute movement of the aircraft at that speed, and to be capable of doing what these men and women do. Truly inspiring!

Love the video but one aspect was not correct. The lovely lady referred to the latent movement as the Coriolis effect. This is not correct. The Coriolis effect is the result of relative Linear motion in a circular motion environment. Mathematically it is omega cross Velocity. The concept she was referring to is better defined as a residual motion within the vestibular.
